rules
components
Document page with calm title block, synopsis, provenance chips, and long-form body rhythm.Inline knowledge object: compact bordered slip with title, status, source count, and one-line summary.Evidence table: monochrome-first, readable row height, sticky header only when necessary, selected row in primary soft accent.Captioned micro-chart: small multiple or sparkline embedded beside prose; one active comparison uses accent, all else slate.Marginalia rail: footnotes, annotations, unresolved questions, and source backlinks aligned to text anchors.Status chip: quiet outline or soft fill with text label; color is semantic but sparse.
content rules
Prefer plain-language headings and short metadata labels.Use sentence-case UI copy and visible source/provenance labels.Keep structured data document-native: references, chips, tables, and footnotes instead of dashboard chrome.
interaction states
Hover: 4-6% ink state layer or thread darkening, no dramatic lift.Focus: 2px cyan/sage outline with 2px offset on controls and inline objects.Selection: soft cyan/sage background plus left thread marker.Warning annotation: muted amber/rose seam, label, and optional icon; never red-only.
layout
density
Use an 8px baseline. Paragraphs breathe at 12-16px, object blocks at 20-24px, sections at 32-48px. Tables use 40px default rows, 32px compact rows, and strong typographic alignment rather than boxed cells.
grid
Desktop uses a document-first grid: 72px navigation/thread rail, minmax(620px, 76ch) reading column, and 280-340px marginalia/evidence column with 24px gutters. Tablet collapses marginalia under the relevant section. Mobile becomes a single stacked reading flow.
layers
Canvas warm white; page slightly brighter; inline objects mist-gray; active selection uses a soft cyan/sage wash; warnings use muted amber/rose bands with labels.
orientation

Use subtle woven vertical rules, row threads, sticky section breadcrumbs, source chips, and margin notes to show where the reader is without adding panels.

guidance
do
  • Build pages as reading documents with inline objects, side notes, reference chips, and compact tables that follow the prose.
  • Use warm white and mist-gray layers to separate canvas, page, object, and metadata without visible panel clutter.
  • Reserve the cool accent for links, focus rings, selected rows, and one active chart comparison at a time.
  • Use amber or rose only for annotations, warnings, unresolved claims, or editorial attention states.
  • Caption every chart and table with a plain-language takeaway and source/provenance metadata.
  • Let woven hairlines, indentation, and baseline rhythm create orientation before icons or backgrounds.
avoid
  • Do not create KPI walls, analytics hero cards, saturated status dashboards, or decorative gradient AI motifs.
  • Do not use more than one accent family in a single local decision unless severity requires it.
  • Do not hide structured data in heavy side panels; keep it close to the sentence, block, or table it explains.
  • Do not rely on shadow for hierarchy; prefer layer color, spacing, and hairline seams.
  • Do not let texture reduce readability or appear as a theme wallpaper.

## shadcn/ui Usage

When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.

DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/aya-text-first-woven-knowledge-workspace/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.

The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.

Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.

# AYA Text-First Woven Knowledge Workspace shadcn/ui Components

Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `aya-text-first-woven-knowledge-workspace`
Slug: `aya-text-first-woven-knowledge-workspace`

## Intent

AYA Text-First Woven Knowledge Workspace is a calm document-native design language for long-form thinking, structured knowledge, and readable evidence. It treats text as the primary surface, lets data live as quiet inline artifacts, and uses a faint woven grid as orientation rather than ornament.

## Required primitives

- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Token cues

Colors:

Defined by the Katagami source fields.

Typography:

{
  "body.lineHeight": "1.62",
  "body.size": "16px",
  "caption.lineHeight": "1.35",
  "caption.size": "12px",
  "dense.lineHeight": "1.45",
  "dense.size": "14px",
  "font.mono": "IBM Plex Mono, ui-monospace, SFMono-Regular, Menlo, monospace",
  "font.sans": "Inter, ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Segoe UI, sans-serif",
  "font.serif.optional": "Source Serif 4, Georgia, serif",
  "h1.lineHeight": "1.18",
  "h1.size": "32px",
  "h2.lineHeight": "1.25",
  "h2.size": "24px",
  "measure.metadata": "28-38ch",
  "measure.reading": "66-76ch"
}

## Visual character to preserve

- Make the source language's structural identity visible in every component state.

## ShadSync visual profile

{
  "family": "system",
  "material": "flat",
  "contour": "default",
  "border": "solid",
  "underlay": false,
  "grain": false,
  "stickerBadges": false,
  "motion": "still",
  "density": "balanced",
  "accents": [
    "primary",
    "accent",
    "secondary",
    "muted"
  ]
}

## Signature component recipes

### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.

### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.

### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.

### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.

### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.

## Preview shots

- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.

## Implementation contract

- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/aya-text-first-woven-knowledge-workspace/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Build pages as reading documents with inline objects, side notes, reference chips, and compact tables that follow the prose.; Use warm white and mist-gray layers to separate canvas, page, object, and metadata without visible panel clutter.; Reserve the cool accent for links, focus rings, selected rows, and one active chart comparison at a time.; Use amber or rose only for annotations, warnings, unresolved claims, or editorial attention states.; Caption every chart and table with a plain-language takeaway and source/provenance metadata.; Let woven hairlines, indentation, and baseline rhythm create orientation before icons or backgrounds.
- Do not: Do not create KPI walls, analytics hero cards, saturated status dashboards, or decorative gradient AI motifs.; Do not use more than one accent family in a single local decision unless severity requires it.; Do not hide structured data in heavy side panels; keep it close to the sentence, block, or table it explains.; Do not rely on shadow for hierarchy; prefer layer color, spacing, and hairline seams.; Do not let texture reduce readability or appear as a theme wallpaper.

## Copy-paste component example

This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
