composition
Build screens from a gridded research cloth: one long-form reading panel anchors the page, smaller note tiles and widgets attach along visible seam lines, and timelines run vertically or horizontally as stitched paths.
density
Moderately dense but breathable; cards may hold research detail, yet each patch keeps 16-24px internal padding, readable line lengths, and visible whitespace gutters.
hierarchy
Use typographic contrast and seam weight instead of color blocks: serif headings, clear section labels, mono citation metadata, and indigo accent rules identify primary, secondary, and source information.
signature patterns
Stitched seam edges: card borders are paired with pseudo-element stitch dashes placed just inside the edge and colored in muted indigo.Citation selvage rails: long notes reserve a narrow left rail with numbered knots, source chips, and hairline connectors to quoted passages.Relationship thread overlay: SVG or absolutely positioned 1px paths connect cards through circular knot nodes without becoming a network graph.Patchwork timeline: chronology appears as stacked cloth strips with alternating paper and blue-gray surfaces joined by cross-stitch tick marks.Restrained highlight baste: selected states use a pale indigo wash plus a 2px thread line, never neon fills or oversized pills.
layout
breakpoints

mobile 375px, tablet 768px, desktop 1200px, wide 1440px

grid

Twelve-column desktop grid over a 32px background underlay; tablet becomes six columns and mobile becomes one stitched vertical cloth strip.

whitespace

Use generous outer margins and 16px grid gutters; leave quiet paper around long notes so citations and relationship seams remain legible.

guidance
do
  • Use warm paper white, pale blue-gray surfaces, and one disciplined indigo accent channel for seams, focus, links, and relationship lines.
  • Make knowledge weaving literal through cross-links, source trails, timeline stitches, citation rails, and visible joins between modular fragments.
  • Keep dashboard widgets small, textual, and research-specific: source freshness, open questions, timeline deltas, and citation coverage.
  • Preserve long-form readability with generous line-height, serif headings, and mono metadata that never competes with the body text.
avoid
  • Do not turn the language into a heavy analytics dashboard with KPI walls, saturated charts, or enterprise admin chrome.
  • Do not use decorative Japanese motifs as wallpaper; sashiko influence must appear as structural grid, stitch, seam, and repair logic.
  • Do not add glassmorphism, large gradients, plush shadows, or rounded SaaS bubbles that break the cloth-and-paper material model.
  • Do not overload every edge with dashes; reserve stitched treatment for joins, selected states, citations, and meaningful relationships.

## Philosophy

A precise light interface language for research tools that treats knowledge as cloth: every note, citation, timeline event, and widget is a patch joined by visible indigo seams rather than a generic dashboard module.

### Values

- visible intellectual joins
- quiet paper precision
- modular research fragments
- readable source trails
- craft without ornament overload

### Anti-Values

- heavy enterprise dashboard chrome
- decorative textile pastiche
- floating glass cards
- unstructured walls of notes
- loud saturated highlight states

### Visual Character

- Use a pale blue-gray CSS grid underlay made from two 1px linear-gradients at 32px intervals with warm paper panels placed on exact grid tracks.
- Draw joins with hairline indigo borders plus short repeating stitch marks using pseudo-elements and dashed background segments along card edges.
- Compose cards as flat rectangular cloth patches with 2px radius, no glossy shadow, and a tiny folded-corner source tab in the top right.
- Connect related notes with thin blue SVG relationship lines and small circular knot nodes that align to grid intersections.
- Set long-form text in generous readable measure with left citation rails, footnote chips, and timeline ticks that share the same blue seam language.

## shadcn/ui Usage

When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.

DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019ed833-ba17-77b1-aa02-b7bb15ad70c7/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.

The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.

Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.

## Do's and Don'ts

- Do Use warm paper white, pale blue-gray surfaces, and one disciplined indigo accent channel for seams, focus, links, and relationship lines.
- Do Make knowledge weaving literal through cross-links, source trails, timeline stitches, citation rails, and visible joins between modular fragments.
- Do Keep dashboard widgets small, textual, and research-specific: source freshness, open questions, timeline deltas, and citation coverage.
- Do Preserve long-form readability with generous line-height, serif headings, and mono metadata that never competes with the body text.
- Don't Do not turn the language into a heavy analytics dashboard with KPI walls, saturated charts, or enterprise admin chrome.
- Don't Do not use decorative Japanese motifs as wallpaper; sashiko influence must appear as structural grid, stitch, seam, and repair logic.
- Don't Do not add glassmorphism, large gradients, plush shadows, or rounded SaaS bubbles that break the cloth-and-paper material model.
- Don't Do not overload every edge with dashes; reserve stitched treatment for joins, selected states, citations, and meaningful relationships.

### Accessibility

Keep body text at 16px or larger, maintain strong text contrast on paper surfaces, pair color cues with lines or labels, and use visible indigo focus rings.

### Usage Context

Best for research notebooks, archival synthesis tools, qualitative analysis, source-backed writing systems, lightweight knowledge dashboards, and scholarly timelines.

# Sashiko Grid Knowledge Weaving shadcn/ui Components

Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019ed833-ba17-77b1-aa02-b7bb15ad70c7`
Slug: `sashiko-grid-knowledge-weaving`

## Intent

A precise light interface language for research tools that treats knowledge as cloth: every note, citation, timeline event, and widget is a patch joined by visible indigo seams rather than a generic dashboard module.

## Required primitives

- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Token cues

  "success": "#3F7D5A",
  "surface": "#FEFCF6",
  "text": "#1F2937",
  "warning": "#A56B22"
}

Typography:

{
  "base_size": "16px",
  "body_font": "IBM Plex Sans JP",
  "google_fonts_url": "https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=IBM+Plex+Sans+JP:wght@400;500;600;700&family=Newsreader:opsz,wght@6..72,500;6..72,650&family=Spline+Sans+Mono:wght@400;500;600&display=swap",

  "line_height": 1.58,

}

## Visual character to preserve

## ShadSync visual profile

{
  "family": "paper-collage",
  "material": "paper",
  "contour": "pebble",
  "border": "dashed",
  "underlay": true,
  "grain": true,
  "stickerBadges": false,

  "density": "balanced",
  "accents": [

    "secondary",
    "muted"
  ]
}

## Signature component recipes

### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.

### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.

### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.

### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.

### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.

## Preview shots

- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.

## Implementation contract

- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/sashiko-grid-knowledge-weaving/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use warm paper white, pale blue-gray surfaces, and one disciplined indigo accent channel for seams, focus, links, and relationship lines.; Make knowledge weaving literal through cross-links, source trails, timeline stitches, citation rails, and visible joins between modular fragments.; Keep dashboard widgets small, textual, and research-specific: source freshness, open questions, timeline deltas, and citation coverage.; Preserve long-form readability with generous line-height, serif headings, and mono metadata that never competes with the body text.
- Do not: Do not turn the language into a heavy analytics dashboard with KPI walls, saturated charts, or enterprise admin chrome.; Do not use decorative Japanese motifs as wallpaper; sashiko influence must appear as structural grid, stitch, seam, and repair logic.; Do not add glassmorphism, large gradients, plush shadows, or rounded SaaS bubbles that break the cloth-and-paper material model.; Do not overload every edge with dashes; reserve stitched treatment for joins, selected states, citations, and meaningful relationships.

## Copy-paste component example

This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
