composition
Use a calm operations-console structure: broad textured page, translucent left rail, dense but breathable content columns, and one elevated detail sheet for the active workflow.
density

Balanced enterprise density: tables and forms are compact enough for real work while cards retain 16-24px internal padding and generous group whitespace.

hierarchy
Create hierarchy through font contrast, warm surface tint, hairline seams, small clay active rails, and clear spacing increments rather than loud color blocks or heavy shadows.
signature patterns
Washi field background: broad page and hero surfaces carry paired micro-line gradients at near-invisible opacity; cards and controls never show decorative fibers.Stencil seam stack: every major panel has a 1px border, an inset white top highlight, and square-aligned section dividers that read like precision cut paper layers.Clay focus rail: selected rows, tabs, and primary actions show a 2px clay rail or offset focus ring plus label weight change to satisfy non-text contrast.Translucent command layer: navigation and modal sheets use rgba bone surfaces with subtle backdrop blur and hairline borders while preserving dark ink text contrast.
layout
breakpoints

mobile 375px single column; tablet 768px stacked rail and content; desktop 1200px+ fixed rail with two-column workspace.

grid

12-column desktop grid with a 256px navigation rail, 24px gutters, and nested 6/6 content-detail columns for operational screens.

whitespace

Whitespace is measured and quiet: 8px baseline, 16px field rhythm, 24px card rhythm, and 48px section pauses on broad passive surfaces.

guidance
do
  • Use micro-texture only on page backgrounds, empty summary fields, or wide passive header bands.
  • Keep borders visible enough for non-text contrast and pair active color with rails, weight, or shape.
  • Use soft warm shadows only for active panels, dialogs, popovers, and sticky command surfaces.
  • Write realistic product content with dense tables, forms, focus indicators, and stateful controls.
avoid
  • Do not draw torn paper, visible fibers, woven illustrations, tape, stickers, or ornamental craft objects.
  • Do not use low-contrast controls; hairline boundaries must still be perceivable against adjacent surfaces.
  • Do not fill every card with grain, gradients, or blur; craft memory must stay peripheral and structural.
  • Do not replace hierarchy with large accent color areas or generic SaaS blue highlights.

## Philosophy

A restrained product-grade language for AYA that keeps the memory of craft in almost invisible material behavior: warm off-white planes, ink-neutral hierarchy, hairline component seams, soft elevation, and woven micro-lines that only appear on broad passive surfaces.

### Values

- quiet material intelligence
- accessible enterprise restraint
- craft cues as structure rather than decoration
- legible hierarchy through tint, hairline borders, and controlled depth

### Anti-Values

- skeuomorphic paper fibers, torn edges, or decorative textile motifs
- high-contrast novelty shadows, gradients, or ornamental craft stickers
- generic white SaaS cards without a material point of view

### Visual Character

- Large passive surfaces use two layered repeating-linear-gradients at 0.018 opacity to create washi-warmth and woven-thread micro-lines while controls remain flat and clean.
- Cards and sheets use 1px ink-neutral borders plus inset top highlights, creating stencil-cut component edges without thick outlines or decorative fiber graphics.
- Elevation is limited to short warm shadows under active panels and dialogs, with no glow; z-depth comes from tint shifts and 1px seams.
- Hierarchy uses warm off-white background, bone surface, ink text, muted graphite labels, and one restrained clay accent reserved for focus rings and active rails.
- Layering uses translucent overlay panels with backdrop-filter blur only in navigation rails and command sheets, preserving accessible contrast on content surfaces.

## Components

### Composition

Use a calm operations-console structure: broad textured page, translucent left rail, dense but breathable content columns, and one elevated detail sheet for the active workflow.

### Density

Balanced enterprise density: tables and forms are compact enough for real work while cards retain 16-24px internal padding and generous group whitespace.

### Hierarchy

Create hierarchy through font contrast, warm surface tint, hairline seams, small clay active rails, and clear spacing increments rather than loud color blocks or heavy shadows.

### Signature Patterns

- Washi field background: broad page and hero surfaces carry paired micro-line gradients at near-invisible opacity; cards and controls never show decorative fibers.
- Stencil seam stack: every major panel has a 1px border, an inset white top highlight, and square-aligned section dividers that read like precision cut paper layers.
- Clay focus rail: selected rows, tabs, and primary actions show a 2px clay rail or offset focus ring plus label weight change to satisfy non-text contrast.
- Translucent command layer: navigation and modal sheets use rgba bone surfaces with subtle backdrop blur and hairline borders while preserving dark ink text contrast.

## shadcn/ui Usage

When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.

DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019edc15-d453-74a3-b075-4725a8b2c3f1/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.

The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.

Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.

## Do's and Don'ts

- Do Use micro-texture only on page backgrounds, empty summary fields, or wide passive header bands.
- Do Keep borders visible enough for non-text contrast and pair active color with rails, weight, or shape.
- Do Use soft warm shadows only for active panels, dialogs, popovers, and sticky command surfaces.
- Do Write realistic product content with dense tables, forms, focus indicators, and stateful controls.
- Don't Do not draw torn paper, visible fibers, woven illustrations, tape, stickers, or ornamental craft objects.
- Don't Do not use low-contrast controls; hairline boundaries must still be perceivable against adjacent surfaces.
- Don't Do not fill every card with grain, gradients, or blur; craft memory must stay peripheral and structural.
- Don't Do not replace hierarchy with large accent color areas or generic SaaS blue highlights.

# Washi Thread Operations shadcn/ui Components

Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019edc15-d453-74a3-b075-4725a8b2c3f1`
Slug: `washi-thread-operations`

## Intent

A restrained product-grade language for AYA that keeps the memory of craft in almost invisible material behavior: warm off-white planes, ink-neutral hierarchy, hairline component seams, soft elevation, and woven micro-lines that only appear on broad passive surfaces.

## Required primitives

- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

  "success": "#54745A",
  "surface": "#FFFCF5",
  "text": "#22201D",
  "warning": "#B9822E"
}

Typography:

## Visual character to preserve

- Large passive surfaces use two layered repeating-linear-gradients at 0.018 opacity to create washi-warmth and woven-thread micro-lines while controls remain flat and clean.
- Cards and sheets use 1px ink-neutral borders plus inset top highlights, creating stencil-cut component edges without thick outlines or decorative fiber graphics.
- Elevation is limited to short warm shadows under active panels and dialogs, with no glow; z-depth comes from tint shifts and 1px seams.
- Hierarchy uses warm off-white background, bone surface, ink text, muted graphite labels, and one restrained clay accent reserved for focus rings and active rails.
- Layering uses translucent overlay panels with backdrop-filter blur only in navigation rails and command sheets, preserving accessible contrast on content surfaces.

## ShadSync visual profile

{
  "family": "paper-collage",
  "material": "paper",
  "contour": "default",
  "border": "solid",
  "underlay": true,
  "grain": true,
  "stickerBadges": false,

  "density": "balanced",
  "accents": [
    "primary",
    "accent",
    "secondary",
    "muted"
  ]
}

## Signature component recipes

### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.

### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.

### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.

### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.

### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.

## Preview shots

- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.

## Implementation contract

- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/washi-thread-operations/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use micro-texture only on page backgrounds, empty summary fields, or wide passive header bands.; Keep borders visible enough for non-text contrast and pair active color with rails, weight, or shape.; Use soft warm shadows only for active panels, dialogs, popovers, and sticky command surfaces.; Write realistic product content with dense tables, forms, focus indicators, and stateful controls.
- Do not: Do not draw torn paper, visible fibers, woven illustrations, tape, stickers, or ornamental craft objects.; Do not use low-contrast controls; hairline boundaries must still be perceivable against adjacent surfaces.; Do not fill every card with grain, gradients, or blur; craft memory must stay peripheral and structural.; Do not replace hierarchy with large accent color areas or generic SaaS blue highlights.

## Copy-paste component example

This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
