rules
Use a reading-first composition: a narrow contextual rail, a broad article column, and a slim right-side jump ladder at desktop; collapse navigation into compact stacked trails on small screens.
High information density is allowed when each cluster has a label, divider, and return path; never stack unrelated panels without a local orientation cue.
Hierarchy is made with serif optical sizes, numbered micro-markers, rule weight, and spacing. Color remains low contrast, with accent reserved for the current trail, selected source, or decision checkpoint.
layout
Mobile below 640px stacks rails above content; tablet from 641px to 1024px keeps the jump ladder inline above sections; desktop above 1025px uses three columns.
Desktop uses a 220px context rail, minmax(0, 760px) reading column, and 170px local jump rail with 32px gutters.
Whitespace is measured and narrow: 12px inside trail rows, 24px between source shelves, and 48px between major decision sections so dense text remains breathable.
guidance
- Use hairline rules and marker numbers to create orientation without visual noise.
- Keep links low contrast until hover or active state, then change weight before changing color.
- Group backlinks, sources, and decisions with explicit local labels and return paths.
- Make the current section visible in both the rail and the article heading.
- Do not use graph visualizations, kanban columns, KPI tiles, or analytics dashboards.
- Do not turn every backlink into a large card or badge wall.
- Do not rely on bright blue anchors, thick shadows, or rounded SaaS panels for hierarchy.
- Do not hide local navigation behind a generic menu on desktop.

# Threadmark Atlas ## Philosophy Threadmark Atlas is a calm contextual wayfinding language for text-heavy knowledge systems where many trails, source clusters, decision paths, and return routes must coexist without turning into an analytics board. It treats navigation as marginal annotation: precise, quiet, always local, and never louder than the reading surface. ### Values - orientation before decoration - local context over global dashboards - compact trails that can be scanned without interrupting reading - source relationships expressed through typographic rhythm and fine rules ### Anti-Values - busy graph canvases and KPI-style panels - oversaturated link states or heavy project-board cards - breadcrumb bars that consume the primary reading hierarchy ### Visual Character - Two-column reading frame with a narrow left rail using 1px vertical rules, tiny numbered trail markers, and sticky local section anchors. - Content cards are flat parchment surfaces separated by soft dotted dividers and inset rule headers instead of drop-shadowed panels. - Backlinks and source clusters appear as low-contrast inline chips with hairline connector stems and compact mono labels. - Decision paths use stepped horizontal rule segments and small circular checkpoints rather than progress bars or timeline blocks. - Section jumps are represented by short anchor ladders with active states shown through border weight and text color only. ## Tokens ### Borders - **Accent Width**: 2px - **Character**: quiet dividers, connector stems, and active anchors shown by weight instead of color blocks - **Default Width**: 1px - **Style**: solid and dotted hairlines ### Colors | Name | Value | |------|-------| | accent | `#9A6A42` | | background | `#F7F4EC` | | border | `#D9D2C3` | | error | `#9B3D35` | | info | `#4C6474` | | muted | `#7C8177` | | primary | `#33483F` | | secondary | `#6E6254` | | success | `#4E7357` | | surface | `#FFFCF5` | | text | `#242923` | | warning | `#A97828` | ### Motion - **Duration**: 160ms - **Easing**: cubic-bezier(0.2, 0, 0.1, 1) - **Philosophy**: motion is limited to small underline growth, focus ring fades, and gentle rail reveal; no sliding boards or bouncing cards ### Radii - **Full**: 9999px - **Lg**: 10px - **Md**: 6px - **None**: 0 - **Sm**: 3px ### Shadows - **Lg**: 0 18px 44px rgba(66,58,45,0.10) - **Md**: 0 10px 28px rgba(66,58,45,0.07) - **Sm**: 0 1px 0 rgba(36,41,35,0.04) ### Spacing - **Base**: 8px - **Scale**: [4,8,12,16,24,32,48,64] ### Surfaces - **Bg Pattern**: subtle paper grain made from low-opacity radial gradients and ruled marginal guides - **Card Style**: flat cards with 1px solid borders, dotted internal separators, and inset heading rules - **Treatment**: warm off-white reading surfaces on a parchment background with almost no elevation ### Typography - **Base Size**: 16px - **Body Font**: Source Serif 4 - **Google Fonts Url**: https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=IBM+Plex+Mono:wght@400;500&family=Literata:opsz,wght@7..72,500;7..72,650&family=Source+Serif+4:opsz,wght@8..60,400;8..60,500;8..60,600&display=swap - **Heading Font**: Literata - **Letter Spacing**: -0.01em - **Line Height**: 1.62 - **Mono Font**: IBM Plex Mono - **Scale Ratio**: 1.18 ## Rules ### Composition Use a reading-first composition: a narrow contextual rail, a broad article column, and a slim right-side jump ladder at desktop; collapse navigation into compact stacked trails on small screens. ### Density High information density is allowed when each cluster has a label, divider, and return path; never stack unrelated panels without a local orientation cue. ### Hierarchy Hierarchy is made with serif optical sizes, numbered micro-markers, rule weight, and spacing. # Threadmark Atlas
## Overview
Threadmark Atlas is a calm contextual wayfinding language for text-heavy knowledge systems where many trails, source clusters, decision paths, and return routes must coexist without turning into an analytics board. It treats navigation as marginal annotation: precise, quiet, always local, and never louder than the reading surface.
### Values
- orientation before decoration
- local context over global dashboards
- compact trails that can be scanned without interrupting reading
- source relationships expressed through typographic rhythm and fine rules
### Anti-Values
- busy graph canvases and KPI-style panels
- oversaturated link states or heavy project-board cards
- breadcrumb bars that consume the primary reading hierarchy
### Visual Character
- Two-column reading frame with a narrow left rail using 1px vertical rules, tiny numbered trail markers, and sticky local section anchors.
## Colors
Use the YAML color tokens as the normative palette. The prose below names the roles agents should preserve when generating UI.

| secondary | `#6E6254` |
| success | `#4E7357` |
| surface | `#FFFCF5` |
| text | `#242923` |
| warning | `#A97828` |

## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019edc16-5864-7f12-a9c9-e333cdde548f/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts

# Threadmark Atlas shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019edc16-5864-7f12-a9c9-e333cdde548f`
Slug: `threadmark-atlas`
## Intent
Threadmark Atlas is a calm contextual wayfinding language for text-heavy knowledge systems where many trails, source clusters, decision paths, and return routes must coexist without turning into an analytics board. It treats navigation as marginal annotation: precise, quiet, always local, and never louder than the reading surface.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Visual character to preserve
- Two-column reading frame with a narrow left rail using 1px vertical rules, tiny numbered trail markers, and sticky local section anchors.

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/threadmark-atlas/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use hairline rules and marker numbers to create orientation without visual noise.; Keep links low contrast until hover or active state, then change weight before changing color.; Group backlinks, sources, and decisions with explicit local labels and return paths.; Make the current section visible in both the rail and the article heading.
- Do not: Do not use graph visualizations, kanban columns, KPI tiles, or analytics dashboards.; Do not turn every backlink into a large card or badge wall.; Do not rely on bright blue anchors, thick shadows, or rounded SaaS panels for hierarchy.; Do not hide local navigation behind a generic menu on desktop.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
```tsx
