composition

density

High text density is allowed when every cluster has a title, two-line summary, local anchors, and enough 8px rhythm to scan without feeling like a table.

hierarchy
Use typography, indentation, and quiet dividers before color. Primary orientation appears as small labels and connector lines; only the current section receives a muted accent edge.

Dotted thread rails connect breadcrumb crumbs, backlink chips, and decision steps with pseudo-element vertical rules rather than boxed navigation blocks.Gutter anchor tabs use rotated micro-labels and hairline brackets beside headings, becoming stronger only on hover, focus, or active section state.Context-map cards are nested paper strips with source provenance stacked as compact clusters, separated by inset dividers and one accent edge.Return-path pills are baseline-aligned inline elements with tiny arrow glyphs, preserving sentence flow while offering a precise way back.Progressive disclosure appears as calm folded sections: summaries remain visible, details open under a soft divider with no modal or board-like overlay.
layout
breakpoints

Desktop 1200px three columns; tablet 760px article plus stacked context bands; mobile 375px single column with horizontal anchor trail and inline backlinks.

grid

Desktop uses a 12-column grid: 220px trail rail, minmax 560px article, 280px context map, with 24px gutters and shared baseline rhythm.

whitespace

Whitespace is narrow but intentional: 8px micro-gaps inside clusters, 24px between navigation groups, and 48px between major article sections.

guidance
do
  • Keep wayfinding elements visibly attached to nearby text and headings.
  • Use dotted hairlines, low-contrast labels, and compact chips for trails and backlinks.
  • Let the current section have one restrained accent edge while all other anchors stay muted.
  • Use realistic long-form content so scanability and return paths are tested.
avoid
  • Do not turn context maps into analytics dashboards, kanban boards, or node-link network diagrams.
  • Do not use saturated fills, heavy cards, or equal-weight panels for every source.
  • Do not hide all navigation behind hamburger menus on desktop.
  • Do not add decorative maps that do not provide a precise local jump or return path.

## Philosophy

A calm navigation language for text-heavy knowledge spaces where pages carry many contexts at once: trails, local anchors, backlinks, source clusters, and decision paths are visible as quiet connective tissue rather than dashboard furniture.

### Values

- orientation before decoration
- context revealed at the reader’s pace
- dense information with breathable line rhythm
- return paths that feel local and trustworthy
- navigation components that read as marginalia, not controls

### Anti-Values

- analytics-dashboard chrome, KPI panels, and project-board lanes
- loud active states that compete with the document
- floating novelty maps disconnected from the reading surface
- generic SaaS card grids with equal visual weight

### Visual Character

- Two-column reading canvas with a narrow left trail rail, a generous article column, and a right contextual index that collapses into inline bands on small screens.
- Hairline dotted connectors and small numbered lozenges mark breadcrumbs, backlinks, and decision steps using border styles instead of saturated fills.
- Section anchors sit as low-contrast gutter tabs aligned to headings, becoming visible on hover and focus while preserving a quiet default page texture.
- Source clusters use nested paper strips with soft inset dividers, compact metadata chips, and one muted accent line to show provenance without card-heavy dashboard framing.
- Local navigation uses sticky contextual bands and return-path pills that share the same baseline grid as body copy, making wayfinding feel woven into the document.

## shadcn/ui Usage

When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.

DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019edc16-f38f-77f0-a208-eaca71ecab5e/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.

The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.

Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.

# Quiet Thread Atlas shadcn/ui Components

Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019edc16-f38f-77f0-a208-eaca71ecab5e`
Slug: `quiet-thread-atlas`

## Intent

A calm navigation language for text-heavy knowledge spaces where pages carry many contexts at once: trails, local anchors, backlinks, source clusters, and decision paths are visible as quiet connective tissue rather than dashboard furniture.

## Required primitives

- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Visual character to preserve

## ShadSync visual profile

{

    "muted"
  ]
}

## Signature component recipes

### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.

### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.

### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.

### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.

### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.

## Preview shots

- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.

## Implementation contract

- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/quiet-thread-atlas/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Keep wayfinding elements visibly attached to nearby text and headings.; Use dotted hairlines, low-contrast labels, and compact chips for trails and backlinks.; Let the current section have one restrained accent edge while all other anchors stay muted.; Use realistic long-form content so scanability and return paths are tested.
- Do not: Do not turn context maps into analytics dashboards, kanban boards, or node-link network diagrams.; Do not use saturated fills, heavy cards, or equal-weight panels for every source.; Do not hide all navigation behind hamburger menus on desktop.; Do not add decorative maps that do not provide a precise local jump or return path.

## Copy-paste component example
