composition
Build every screen on an asymmetric joinery grid: one dominant work panel, one narrow ledger rail, and one quiet material margin that remains intentionally empty.
density

Medium-low density with generous 24px to 64px intervals; dense tables are allowed only inside framed ledger panels.

hierarchy

Use serif headings for named spaces, compact mono captions for measurements and states, and blue-black reversed labels only for the current active operation.

signature patterns
Katagami stencil tabs: active navigation and command buttons use a blue-black fill with a tiny square cutout notch made by a pseudo-element.Joinery rails: panels align to a visible charcoal frame, with 3px accent rails marking the load-bearing edge of each workflow region.Washi underlay: cards and page background use layered radial and linear gradients at low opacity to create fibrous material softness.Positive-negative cutout rows: selected table rows invert to blue-black while small mono tags remain off-white capsules.Ma gaps: groups are separated by deliberate blank cells and oversized gutters rather than extra dividers or decorative icons.
layout
breakpoints
Mobile 0-639px stacks ledger below work mat; tablet 640-1023px uses two-column panels; desktop 1024px+ activates the full asymmetric rail/work/margin composition.
grid

Desktop uses a 12-column joinery grid with a 280px ledger rail, a 1fr work field, and explicit 24px gutters.

whitespace

Whitespace is treated as ma: keep at least one intentionally empty interval per view and use 32px to 64px separation between unrelated decisions.

guidance
do
  • Use charcoal 1px lines and a single indigo-blue active channel to encode structure and state.
  • Let panel proportions, not ornament, carry the Japanese craft reference: rails, gaps, cutouts, and fibers.
  • Keep corners nearly square and radius geometry consistent across cards, controls, and tables.
  • Use subtle texture only on broad surfaces; keep text fields and dense data readable.
avoid
  • Do not add literal kimono patterns, waves, blossoms, red sun circles, kanji decoration, or brush-stroke logos.
  • Do not use generic rounded cards, floating glass panels, gradient hero sections, or multicolor analytics badges.
  • Do not fill all available space; preserve at least one meaningful blank interval in every composition.
  • Do not let status colors overpower the blue-black active state or charcoal structural lines.

## Philosophy

A restrained product interface language for AYA that translates katagami stencil logic, sashimono joinery grids, washi fiber softness, sumi linework, and aizome blue-black depth into quiet operational structure rather than ornament.

### Values

- Negative space behaves like ma: intervals separate decisions and create calm before emphasis.
- Craft reference is structural: cutouts, rails, fibers, joints, and woven measures become layout and state grammar.
- Human material undertones appear as faint off-white variation and indigo depth while the UI remains precise and useful.
- Asymmetry is disciplined; one dominant working panel is balanced by smaller ledgers, notes, and status strips.

### Anti-Values

- Decorative Japanese motifs, cherry blossoms, faux brush calligraphy, tourist patterning, or ornamental borders.
- Generic SaaS cards with soft shadows, arbitrary radii, bright status rainbows, and evenly weighted dashboard tiles.
- Texture that harms legibility or turns controls into skeuomorphic paper props.

### Visual Character

- Use a 1px charcoal joinery grid with selective 3px left or top rails to lock panels into modular timber-frame proportions.
- Render surfaces as warm off-white panels with radial and linear fiber noise overlays at very low opacity instead of shadows.
- Create active and hover states through blue-black inset fills, stencil-cut notches, and positive-negative label reversal.
- Set typography in Noto Serif JP headings, Inter body text, and IBM Plex Mono measurements with tight letterspacing on labels.
- Compose screens asymmetrically with one large work mat, narrow ledger columns, and wide intentional blank intervals between groups.

- Do not let status colors overpower the blue-black active state or charcoal structural lines.

### Accessibility

Core text and active states meet WCAG AA contrast; focus is shown by a 2px indigo outline plus offset; texture opacity stays below legibility thresholds.

### Usage Context

Best for calm operational tools, craft inventory systems, cultural archives, editorial planning, design review workspaces, and AYA product surfaces that need tactility without decoration.

## shadcn/ui Usage

When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.

DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019edc1b-7a56-72f1-9aa2-05a330b1a2d9/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.

The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.

Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.

## Do's and Don'ts

- Do Use charcoal 1px lines and a single indigo-blue active channel to encode structure and state.
- Do Let panel proportions, not ornament, carry the Japanese craft reference: rails, gaps, cutouts, and fibers.
- Do Keep corners nearly square and radius geometry consistent across cards, controls, and tables.
- Do Use subtle texture only on broad surfaces; keep text fields and dense data readable.
- Don't Do not add literal kimono patterns, waves, blossoms, red sun circles, kanji decoration, or brush-stroke logos.
- Don't Do not use generic rounded cards, floating glass panels, gradient hero sections, or multicolor analytics badges.
- Don't Do not fill all available space; preserve at least one meaningful blank interval in every composition.
- Don't Do not let status colors overpower the blue-black active state or charcoal structural lines.

### Accessibility

Core text and active states meet WCAG AA contrast; focus is shown by a 2px indigo outline plus offset; texture opacity stays below legibility thresholds.

### Usage Context

Best for calm operational tools, craft inventory systems, cultural archives, editorial planning, design review workspaces, and AYA product surfaces that need tactility without decoration.

# Aizome Joinery Ledger shadcn/ui Components

Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019edc1b-7a56-72f1-9aa2-05a330b1a2d9`
Slug: `aizome-joinery-ledger`

## Intent

A restrained product interface language for AYA that translates katagami stencil logic, sashimono joinery grids, washi fiber softness, sumi linework, and aizome blue-black depth into quiet operational structure rather than ornament.

## Required primitives

- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Token cues

Colors:

  "accent": "#173f5f",
  "background": "#f3efe4",
  "border": "#2b2b27",
  "error": "#9b352c",
  "info": "#1b4d73",
  "muted": "#6f7068",
  "primary": "#0b1b2a",
  "secondary": "#243326",
  "success": "#2f6545",
  "surface": "#fbf7ec",
  "text": "#151818",
  "warning": "#a56a22"
}

Typography:

{
  "base_size": "16px",
  "body_font": "Inter",
  "google_fonts_url": "https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=IBM+Plex+Mono:wght@400;500;600&family=Inter:wght@400;500;600;700&family=Noto+Serif+JP:wght@500;600;700&display=swap",
  "heading_font": "Noto Serif JP",
  "letter_spacing": "-0.01em",
  "line_height": 1.55,
  "mono_font": "IBM Plex Mono",
  "scale_ratio": 1.22
}

## Visual character to preserve

## ShadSync visual profile

{
  "family": "paper-collage",
  "material": "paper",
  "contour": "default",
  "border": "solid",
  "underlay": true,
  "grain": true,
  "stickerBadges": false,
  "motion": "still",
  "density": "dense",
  "accents": [
    "primary",
    "accent",
    "secondary",
    "muted"
  ]
}

## Signature component recipes

### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.

### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.

### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.

### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.

### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.

## Preview shots

- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.

## Implementation contract

- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/aizome-joinery-ledger/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use charcoal 1px lines and a single indigo-blue active channel to encode structure and state.; Let panel proportions, not ornament, carry the Japanese craft reference: rails, gaps, cutouts, and fibers.; Keep corners nearly square and radius geometry consistent across cards, controls, and tables.; Use subtle texture only on broad surfaces; keep text fields and dense data readable.
- Do not: Do not add literal kimono patterns, waves, blossoms, red sun circles, kanji decoration, or brush-stroke logos.; Do not use generic rounded cards, floating glass panels, gradient hero sections, or multicolor analytics badges.; Do not fill all available space; preserve at least one meaningful blank interval in every composition.; Do not let status colors overpower the blue-black active state or charcoal structural lines.

## Copy-paste component example

This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
