composition

Arrange screens as a woven worktable: persistent left index, broad document panel, right-side status strips, and aligned rows that share baselines across cards.

density

Moderate density with compact metadata and generous row breathing; controls remain 36-42px tall and content panels use 16-24px internal gutters.

hierarchy
Use Mincho titles for authored document emphasis, sans body for operating text, and mono chips for measurements, dates, and loom-run identifiers so hierarchy changes voice rather than only size.
signature patterns
Kasuri register bands: thin repeating dash strips placed at panel headers and active list rows to signal textile structure without becoming wallpaper.Cut-corner action plates: primary buttons and selected tabs use squared indigo fills with tiny diagonal notches and 2px persimmon offset shadows.Selvage status tabs: narrow vertical color bars attach to card edges for review, ready, warning, and archived states instead of colored card backgrounds.Double-hairline sheet frames: important surfaces use an outer border plus an inset 1px rule to evoke stencil-cut paper templates.
layout
breakpoints

mobile 375px, tablet 768px, desktop 1200px and up

grid
Desktop uses 280px left rail, flexible central sheet, and 320px inspection column; tablet collapses inspection below; mobile becomes stacked sheets with horizontal status chips.
whitespace

Whitespace is treated like uncut paper: 24-32px around primary sheets, 12-16px in rows, and visible gutters between woven columns.

guidance
do
  • Keep most surfaces warm white and let linework define structure.
  • Use indigo only for primary action, focus, and selected navigation.
  • Make every motif functional: register bands, tabs, and notches must mark state or hierarchy.
  • Pair Mincho headings with sans operating copy and mono metadata.
avoid
  • Do not use generic blue SaaS gradients or floating glass cards.
  • Do not scatter Japanese ornament where it does not explain product structure.
  • Do not round every component into pills; reserve full radius for tiny tags only.
  • Do not add shadows when a hairline frame can create hierarchy.

## Philosophy

A light, text-first product workspace that treats information panels like woven paper samples: disciplined columns, quiet rice-paper surfaces, crisp charcoal typography, and sparse indigo/persimmon/tea accents that appear only as functional marks, states, and cut-stencil cues.

### Values

- text-first legibility before ornament
- woven rhythm expressed through alignment and micro-patterns
- restrained cultural reference translated into product structure
- calm operational clarity with tactile paper surfaces

### Anti-Values

- generic white SaaS cards with arbitrary blue buttons
- decorative Japanese motifs pasted onto unrelated layouts
- heavy shadows, glossy gradients, and rounded blob surfaces
- dense component catalogs without a plausible workspace scene

### Visual Character

- Use a two-column asymmetrical grid with a narrow woven-index rail and larger document workspace, separated by 1px stencil-gray rules rather than floating shadows.
- Apply rice-paper surfaces with extremely subtle repeating linear-gradient fiber and kasuri dash textures clipped to panels, never as full-screen decoration.
- Create indigo focus and primary actions as squared cut-paper insets with 2px offset underlines and small notch corners made with pseudo-elements.
- Set headings in a literary Japanese Mincho serif and body in a humanist sans, with label metadata in a compact mono to create three distinct typographic voices.
- Use rectilinear 2px-6px radii, double hairline borders, and narrow persimmon or tea-green side tabs to mark status without filling cards with color.

## shadcn/ui Usage

When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.

DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019edc63-b23c-7a53-b2e7-325eec7c4b26/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.

The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.

Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.

## Do's and Don'ts

- Do Keep most surfaces warm white and let linework define structure.
- Do Use indigo only for primary action, focus, and selected navigation.
- Do Make every motif functional: register bands, tabs, and notches must mark state or hierarchy.
- Do Pair Mincho headings with sans operating copy and mono metadata.
- Don't Do not use generic blue SaaS gradients or floating glass cards.
- Don't Do not scatter Japanese ornament where it does not explain product structure.
- Don't Do not round every component into pills; reserve full radius for tiny tags only.
- Don't Do not add shadows when a hairline frame can create hierarchy.

# Woven Katagami Light Workspace shadcn/ui Components

Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019edc63-b23c-7a53-b2e7-325eec7c4b26`
Slug: `woven-katagami-light-workspace`

## Intent

A light, text-first product workspace that treats information panels like woven paper samples: disciplined columns, quiet rice-paper surfaces, crisp charcoal typography, and sparse indigo/persimmon/tea accents that appear only as functional marks, states, and cut-stencil cues.

## Required primitives

- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table

Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Token cues

  "success": "#55744A",
  "surface": "#FFFDF7",
  "text": "#25211B",
  "warning": "#B8792F"
}

Typography:

{
  "base_size": "16px",
  "body_font": "IBM Plex Sans",
  "google_fonts_url": "https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=IBM+Plex+Mono:wght@400;500;600&family=IBM+Plex+Sans:wght@400;500;600;700&family=Shippori+Mincho:wght@500;600;700&display=swap",

  "letter_spacing": "-0.01em",
  "line_height": 1.52,
  "mono_font": "IBM Plex Mono",
  "scale_ratio": 1.22
}

## Visual character to preserve

## ShadSync visual profile

{
  "family": "paper-collage",
  "material": "paper",
  "contour": "default",
  "border": "dashed",
  "underlay": true,
  "grain": true,
  "stickerBadges": false,
  "motion": "still",
  "density": "dense",
  "accents": [
    "primary",
    "accent",
    "secondary",
    "muted"
  ]
}

## Signature component recipes

### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.

### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.

### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.

### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.

### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.

## Preview shots

- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.

## Implementation contract

- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/woven-katagami-light-workspace/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Keep most surfaces warm white and let linework define structure.; Use indigo only for primary action, focus, and selected navigation.; Make every motif functional: register bands, tabs, and notches must mark state or hierarchy.; Pair Mincho headings with sans operating copy and mono metadata.
- Do not: Do not use generic blue SaaS gradients or floating glass cards.; Do not scatter Japanese ornament where it does not explain product structure.; Do not round every component into pills; reserve full radius for tiny tags only.; Do not add shadows when a hairline frame can create hierarchy.

## Copy-paste component example
