summary
A calm text-first knowledge workspace where data is folded into readable surfaces rather than displayed as dashboard spectacle. The language borrows from Bauhaus weaving and enterprise accessibility systems: quiet grids, threadlike dividers, restrained semantic color, and compact typographic rhythm for sustained research work.
values
Reading before decoration: every chart, status, and control must remain legible as prose-adjacent knowledge.Woven structure: grids, rules, and subtle thread bands reveal relationships without creating ornamental noise.Semantic restraint: color appears as accountable state, comparison, or annotation rather than brand wash.Compact continuity: dense pages should feel paced by line length, measure, and row rhythm instead of card sprawl.
anti-values
×No KPI dashboard walls, neon analytics panels, floating glass cards, or sales-console spectacle.×No arbitrary rounded softness, decorative gradients, or color-only state indication.×No generic three-card hero sections or component inventory scenes detached from a real knowledge task.

rules
composition
Compose screens as reading planes: a compact left index, a central evidence column, and a right annotation rail. Data modules interrupt prose like footnotes, never as standalone dashboard islands.
density
High information density is acceptable when each row keeps baseline rhythm, 16px body readability, and clear section gutters; avoid oversized cards and sparse dashboard spacing.
hierarchy
Use typographic density before scale. Titles are modest Literata blocks, section labels are mono microtext, and state changes rely on rule weight, caption position, and labelled color chips.
signature patterns
Woven-rule underlay: repeating-linear-gradient warp and weft lines align with panel borders, table rows, and chart ticks across the entire viewport.Caption-rail data objects: charts and matrices include a left or top rail with source, state, and interpretation text so visualization reads as a knowledge paragraph.Thread chips for semantic color: small labelled pills use a 3px inset rule and muted fill, ensuring status is never communicated by hue alone.Inline loom charts: mini bars, sparklines, and comparison cells are embedded inside text rows with mono values and hairline tick marks instead of dashboard widgets.
layout
breakpoints
mobile 375px, tablet 768px, desktop 1200px, wide 1440px
grid
12-column woven workbench grid with 280px index rail, minmax central reading column, and 320px annotation rail on desktop; collapses to stacked rails below tablet width.
whitespace
Whitespace is measured in 8px increments; gutters are quiet but consistent, with denser row spacing inside evidence objects and larger pauses only between reading sections.
guidance
- Use text, captions, source notes, and labelled chips to make every visualization understandable without dashboard context.
- Keep semantic colors low-chroma and paired with shape, label, or border weight for accessibility.
- Align panel edges, row rules, chart ticks, and rails to the woven background grid.
- Use compact type hierarchy with readable measure, especially for long knowledge notes and evidence tables.
- Do not make a KPI dashboard, executive analytics wall, glossy SaaS homepage, or generic component gallery.
- Do not add decorative color floods, arbitrary radii, glass effects, or high-contrast neon charts.
- Do not rely on icon-only controls or color-only status indications.
- Do not break the woven rhythm with floating cards that ignore the page grid.

# AYA Woven Reading Plane
## Overview
A calm text-first knowledge workspace where data is folded into readable surfaces rather than displayed as dashboard spectacle. The language borrows from Bauhaus weaving and enterprise accessibility systems: quiet grids, threadlike dividers, restrained semantic color, and compact typographic rhythm for sustained research work.
### Values
- Reading before decoration: every chart, status, and control must remain legible as prose-adjacent knowledge.
- Woven structure: grids, rules, and subtle thread bands reveal relationships without creating ornamental noise.
- Semantic restraint: color appears as accountable state, comparison, or annotation rather than brand wash.
- Compact continuity: dense pages should feel paced by line length, measure, and row rhythm instead of card sprawl.
### Anti-Values
- No KPI dashboard walls, neon analytics panels, floating glass cards, or sales-console spectacle.
- No arbitrary rounded softness, decorative gradients, or color-only state indication.
- No generic three-card hero sections or component inventory scenes detached from a real knowledge task.
### Visual Character
- CSS uses a pale flax background with repeating-linear-gradient thread rules at 8px and 40px intervals, making the page grid visible as woven structure rather than decoration.
- Primary content is set in narrow measure columns using Literata for titles and IBM Plex Sans for dense interface text, with max-width clamps and 1px baseline row rules.
- Data surfaces are inline knowledge objects: tables, sparklines, and relationship matrices sit inside text panels with caption rails, not isolated dashboard cards.
- Semantic accents are thin left borders, underlines, and small woven chips using muted indigo, clay, amber, and moss tokens with text labels for state redundancy.
- Containers use one committed geometry: 2px field radius, 6px panel radius, and square outer page edges with hairline borders and almost no shadow.

## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019edcbf-7ecc-75e0-9db7-36220da4d809/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Use text, captions, source notes, and labelled chips to make every visualization understandable without dashboard context.
- Do Keep semantic colors low-chroma and paired with shape, label, or border weight for accessibility.
- Do Align panel edges, row rules, chart ticks, and rails to the woven background grid.
- Do Use compact type hierarchy with readable measure, especially for long knowledge notes and evidence tables.
- Don't Do not make a KPI dashboard, executive analytics wall, glossy SaaS homepage, or generic component gallery.
- Don't Do not add decorative color floods, arbitrary radii, glass effects, or high-contrast neon charts.
- Don't Do not rely on icon-only controls or color-only status indications.
- Don't Do not break the woven rhythm with floating cards that ignore the page grid.
### Accessibility
Text and semantic states target WCAG AA contrast; color is always paired with labels, border weight, or pattern; focus states use 2px indigo outlines with offset.

# AYA Woven Reading Plane shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019edcbf-7ecc-75e0-9db7-36220da4d809`
Slug: `aya-woven-reading-plane`
## Intent
A calm text-first knowledge workspace where data is folded into readable surfaces rather than displayed as dashboard spectacle. The language borrows from Bauhaus weaving and enterprise accessibility systems: quiet grids, threadlike dividers, restrained semantic color, and compact typographic rhythm for sustained research work.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Visual character to preserve
## ShadSync visual profile

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/aya-woven-reading-plane/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use text, captions, source notes, and labelled chips to make every visualization understandable without dashboard context.; Keep semantic colors low-chroma and paired with shape, label, or border weight for accessibility.; Align panel edges, row rules, chart ticks, and rails to the woven background grid.; Use compact type hierarchy with readable measure, especially for long knowledge notes and evidence tables.
- Do not: Do not make a KPI dashboard, executive analytics wall, glossy SaaS homepage, or generic component gallery.; Do not add decorative color floods, arbitrary radii, glass effects, or high-contrast neon charts.; Do not rely on icon-only controls or color-only status indications.; Do not break the woven rhythm with floating cards that ignore the page grid.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
