rules
Compose screens as reading rooms: a slim navigation rail, a central editorial document column, and a compact evidence/data rail that can stack on small viewports.
High information density with 8px baseline spacing, 13px metadata, and 44px minimum control targets for touch.
Let typography and spatial rhythm lead: serif titles, compact uppercase metadata, quiet section rules, and inline semantic markers before any large color blocks.
layout
mobile 375px, tablet 768px, desktop 1200px, wide 1440px
12-column desktop grid with 72px nav rail, 7-column document well, and 4-column evidence rail; tablet collapses rail below document; mobile becomes a single reading stack.
Whitespace is rhythmic rather than sparse: 16px inner padding for dense cells, 24px panel gutters, and 48px between major reading sections.
guidance
- Embed metrics as explanatory inline evidence near the relevant text.
- Use semantic accents sparingly for state, provenance, and focus.
- Preserve the woven background, left index rules, and compact typographic scale across components.
- Keep tables readable with tabular numerals and note snippets.
- Do not create dashboard walls of charts, KPI cards, or saturated status blocks.
- Do not mix arbitrary radii; use the committed 14/10/full geometry.
- Do not rely on accent color alone for identity or hierarchy.
- Do not add heavy shadows, glassmorphism, or novelty shapes.

# AYA Quiet Weave Knowledge Surfaces
## Overview
A light, text-first workspace language for knowledge teams where data appears as annotated evidence inside reading, editing, and synthesis flows rather than as saturated dashboard panels.
### Values
- Reading comfort over spectacle
- Evidence embedded in prose
- Restrained semantic color with clear purpose
- Dense but breathable editorial rhythm
- Quiet woven structure that supports long sessions
### Anti-Values
- Dashboard saturation and KPI theatrics
- Generic white cards with color doing all identity work
- Arbitrary soft radii or ornamental decoration without component grammar
### Visual Character
- Use a faint woven page background made from two crossing linear-gradients at 24px intervals, visible only on neutral margins and not inside controls.
- Build content as narrow text columns beside compact evidence rails, with cards divided by hairline borders and small left index rules rather than heavy shadows.
- Apply accent color as inline chips, row ticks, focus rings, and annotated callouts; keep large surfaces warm neutral with semantic color below ten percent coverage.
- Set dense typographic rhythm with Source Serif 4 headings, Inter body copy, 13px metadata, tabular numerals, and generous line-height for reading passages.
- Use one committed geometry: 14px containers, 10px fields, and full pill badges so the interface feels calm rather than generically plush.
## Colors
Use the YAML color tokens as the normative palette. The prose below names the roles agents should preserve when generating UI.

## Components
### Composition
Compose screens as reading rooms: a slim navigation rail, a central editorial document column, and a compact evidence/data rail that can stack on small viewports.
### Density
High information density with 8px baseline spacing, 13px metadata, and 44px minimum control targets for touch.
### Hierarchy
Let typography and spatial rhythm lead: serif titles, compact uppercase metadata, quiet section rules, and inline semantic markers before any large color blocks.
### Signature Patterns
- Woven neutral underlay appears behind the app shell while all actionable surfaces remain clean paper panels with hairline woven dividers.
- Inline evidence lozenges combine a semantic dot, tabular count, and short label so data reads as annotation within text rather than dashboard chrome.
- Knowledge tables use manuscript rows: compact cells, row-leading accent ticks, pale status bands, and expandable note snippets instead of chart-like cards.
- Section headers use a serif phrase plus mono coordinate label connected by a thin rule, creating a quiet editorial indexing system.
## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019edcce-1077-79c1-ae1b-84cefd6722fd/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Embed metrics as explanatory inline evidence near the relevant text.
- Do Use semantic accents sparingly for state, provenance, and focus.
- Do Preserve the woven background, left index rules, and compact typographic scale across components.
- Do Keep tables readable with tabular numerals and note snippets.
- Don't Do not create dashboard walls of charts, KPI cards, or saturated status blocks.
- Don't Do not mix arbitrary radii; use the committed 14/10/full geometry.
- Don't Do not rely on accent color alone for identity or hierarchy.
- Don't Do not add heavy shadows, glassmorphism, or novelty shapes.

- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch

## Visual character to preserve
- Use a faint woven page background made from two crossing linear-gradients at 24px intervals, visible only on neutral margins and not inside controls.
- Build content as narrow text columns beside compact evidence rails, with cards divided by hairline borders and small left index rules rather than heavy shadows.
- Apply accent color as inline chips, row ticks, focus rings, and annotated callouts; keep large surfaces warm neutral with semantic color below ten percent coverage.
- Set dense typographic rhythm with Source Serif 4 headings, Inter body copy, 13px metadata, tabular numerals, and generous line-height for reading passages.
- Use one committed geometry: 14px containers, 10px fields, and full pill badges so the interface feels calm rather than generically plush.
## ShadSync visual profile

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/aya-quiet-weave-knowledge-surfaces/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Embed metrics as explanatory inline evidence near the relevant text.; Use semantic accents sparingly for state, provenance, and focus.; Preserve the woven background, left index rules, and compact typographic scale across components.; Keep tables readable with tabular numerals and note snippets.
- Do not: Do not create dashboard walls of charts, KPI cards, or saturated status blocks.; Do not mix arbitrary radii; use the committed 14/10/full geometry.; Do not rely on accent color alone for identity or hierarchy.; Do not add heavy shadows, glassmorphism, or novelty shapes.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
