rules
Use a columnar manuscript ledger: outline anchors on the left, long-form prose in the center, evidence and notes in a right rail. Data stays attached to passages as strips, ruled bands, and small tabular summaries.
Dense but calm: many textual artifacts may be visible at once, but each is aligned to a row system and separated by rules, not by bulky containers.
Establish hierarchy with measure, line rules, type weight, small caps metadata, and vertical rhythm. Cobalt marks selected path; plum marks authored marginalia; green-gray marks completeness or confidence.
layout
1200px tightens rails; 900px moves evidence below prose; 560px stacks outline, manuscript, and evidence with horizontal anchor chips.
Desktop grid uses minmax(96px, 0.22fr) left gutter, minmax(520px, 760px) manuscript column, and minmax(260px, 0.32fr) evidence rail with 24px gutters.
Whitespace behaves like ma: generous top margins at section turns, tight line spacing inside apparatus, and empty ruled rows that create pauses without blank cards.
guidance
- Keep dense evidence visible as marginal apparatus beside prose.
- Use cobalt only for current navigation or selected passage.
- Use plum only for human authored notes and edits.
- Prefer ruled bands, tables, and tiny multiples over dashboard panels.
- Maintain high-contrast long-form text and clear focus outlines.
- Do not split the screen into many resizable dashboard panes.
- Do not use heatmap color ramps or traffic-light status dashboards unless critical.
- Do not hide paragraphs inside generic cards.
- Do not badge every dataset or make every source a chart.
- Do not introduce large rounded SaaS surfaces that break the manuscript rhythm.

# Quiet Ledger of Context ## Philosophy Quiet Ledger of Context is a Japanese-inspired editorial workspace for reading, writing, and reconciling dense evidence without converting the work into a dashboard. It treats sources, annotations, and confidence as marginal apparatus woven into a manuscript grid. ### Values - sustained long-form reading - evidence kept beside the sentence it supports - restrained structural color - ledger-like alignment and editorial proofing rhythm - calm summaries that clarify rather than compete ### Anti-Values - dashboard chrome and pane proliferation - aggressive heatmaps or badge noise - hiding prose behind generic cards - turning every data object into a chart ### Visual Character - Three-column CSS grid with a narrow left outline gutter, a central manuscript measure, and a right evidence rail that collapses below tablet width. - Near-white page surface over pale stone ruled gridlines using repeating-linear-gradient bands inspired by manuscript paper and ledger rows. - Citation strips and marginal notes use left border rules instead of filled cards, with plum reserved for authored comments and cobalt for current navigation. - Section breaks render as full-width ruled summary bands containing tiny inline metrics, tabular figures, and green-gray completeness ticks. - Text hierarchy is produced through serif body rhythm, compact sans metadata, tabular numerals, and spacing rather than colored panels or shadows. ## Tokens ### Borders - **Accent Width**: 3px - **Character**: thin stone rules for structure; cobalt and plum appear only as localized rule accents - **Default Width**: 1px - **Style**: solid ### Colors | Name | Value | |------|-------| | accent | `#718571` | | background | `#FAF9F5` | | border | `#D8D2C6` | | error | `#9A5B52` | | info | `#2E5E9E` | | muted | `#777168` | | primary | `#2E5E9E` | | secondary | `#8A5A73` | | success | `#718571` | | surface | `#F0EEE7` | | text | `#25231F` | | warning | `#A77A3B` | ### Motion - **Duration**: 140ms - **Easing**: cubic-bezier(0.2, 0, 0.1, 1) - **Philosophy**: quiet editorial state changes: underline, rule, and opacity changes only; no bouncing panels or dashboard animation ### Radii - **Full**: 9999px - **Lg**: 8px - **Md**: 4px - **None**: 0 - **Sm**: 2px ### Shadows - **Lg**: 0 18px 48px rgba(37,35,31,0.10) - **Md**: 0 8px 24px rgba(37,35,31,0.08) - **Sm**: 0 1px 0 rgba(37,35,31,0.06) ### Spacing - **Base**: 8px - **Scale**: [4,8,12,16,24,32,48,64] ### Surfaces - **Bg Pattern**: subtle repeating linear gradients every 32px and 96px to evoke manuscript cells without visible decoration - **Card Style**: unfilled citation strips, ruled bands, and flat manuscript panels using border-left accents - **Treatment**: near-white ledger page with pale ruled bands and almost no elevation ### Typography - **Base Size**: 16px - **Body Font**: Noto Serif JP - **Google Fonts Url**: https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Noto+Serif+JP:wght@400;500;600;700&family=Inter:wght@400;500;600;700&family=IBM+Plex+Mono:wght@400;500;600&display=swap - **Heading Font**: Noto Serif JP - **Letter Spacing**: -0.01em - **Line Height**: 1.68 - **Mono Font**: IBM Plex Mono - **Scale Ratio**: 1.22 ## Rules ### Composition Use a columnar manuscript ledger: outline anchors on the left, long-form prose in the center, evidence and notes in a right rail. # Quiet Ledger of Context
## Overview
Quiet Ledger of Context is a Japanese-inspired editorial workspace for reading, writing, and reconciling dense evidence without converting the work into a dashboard. It treats sources, annotations, and confidence as marginal apparatus woven into a manuscript grid.
### Values
- sustained long-form reading
- evidence kept beside the sentence it supports
- restrained structural color
- ledger-like alignment and editorial proofing rhythm
- calm summaries that clarify rather than compete
### Anti-Values
- dashboard chrome and pane proliferation
- aggressive heatmaps or badge noise
- hiding prose behind generic cards
- turning every data object into a chart
### Visual Character
- Three-column CSS grid with a narrow left outline gutter, a central manuscript measure, and a right evidence rail that collapses below tablet width.
- Near-white page surface over pale stone ruled gridlines using repeating-linear-gradient bands inspired by manuscript paper and ledger rows.
- Citation strips and marginal notes use left border rules instead of filled cards, with plum reserved for authored comments and cobalt for current navigation.
- Section breaks render as full-width ruled summary bands containing tiny inline metrics, tabular figures, and green-gray completeness ticks.
- Text hierarchy is produced through serif body rhythm, compact sans metadata, tabular numerals, and spacing rather than colored panels or shadows.
## Colors
Use the YAML color tokens as the normative palette. The prose below names the roles agents should preserve when generating UI.

## Components
### Composition
Use a columnar manuscript ledger: outline anchors on the left, long-form prose in the center, evidence and notes in a right rail. Data stays attached to passages as strips, ruled bands, and small tabular summaries.
### Density
Dense but calm: many textual artifacts may be visible at once, but each is aligned to a row system and separated by rules, not by bulky containers.
### Hierarchy
Establish hierarchy with measure, line rules, type weight, small caps metadata, and vertical rhythm. Cobalt marks selected path; plum marks authored marginalia; green-gray marks completeness or confidence.
### Signature Patterns
- Outline gutter uses vertical writing cues, numbered anchors, and a cobalt hairline to show the active section without a sidebar panel.
- Evidence rail aligns source strips to manuscript paragraphs and uses compact citation tabs with mono line numbers and ruled separators.
- Summary bands span the reading column as ledger totals, combining tiny multiples, tabular figures, and green-gray completeness marks at section breaks.
- Authored note stacks are collapsible-looking plum marginal slips with paper-rule borders and no filled badge backgrounds.
- Katagami stencil texture appears as sparse cutout corner ticks and woven micro-rules rather than ornamental pattern fills.
## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019ee037-b3e1-7623-baf9-2965a5590a47/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Keep dense evidence visible as marginal apparatus beside prose.
- Do Use cobalt only for current navigation or selected passage.
- Do Use plum only for human authored notes and edits.
- Do Prefer ruled bands, tables, and tiny multiples over dashboard panels.
- Do Maintain high-contrast long-form text and clear focus outlines.
- Don't Do not split the screen into many resizable dashboard panes.
- Don't Do not use heatmap color ramps or traffic-light status dashboards unless critical.
- Don't Do not hide paragraphs inside generic cards.
- Don't Do not badge every dataset or make every source a chart.
- Don't Do not introduce large rounded SaaS surfaces that break the manuscript rhythm.

# Quiet Ledger of Context shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019ee037-b3e1-7623-baf9-2965a5590a47`
Slug: `quiet-ledger-of-context`
## Intent
Quiet Ledger of Context is a Japanese-inspired editorial workspace for reading, writing, and reconciling dense evidence without converting the work into a dashboard. It treats sources, annotations, and confidence as marginal apparatus woven into a manuscript grid.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Visual character to preserve
## ShadSync visual profile

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/quiet-ledger-of-context/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Keep dense evidence visible as marginal apparatus beside prose.; Use cobalt only for current navigation or selected passage.; Use plum only for human authored notes and edits.; Prefer ruled bands, tables, and tiny multiples over dashboard panels.; Maintain high-contrast long-form text and clear focus outlines.
- Do not: Do not split the screen into many resizable dashboard panes.; Do not use heatmap color ramps or traffic-light status dashboards unless critical.; Do not hide paragraphs inside generic cards.; Do not badge every dataset or make every source a chart.; Do not introduce large rounded SaaS surfaces that break the manuscript rhythm.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
