rules
Compose screens as a reading desk: context map on the left, primary document flow in the center, and marginal analytics or status evidence on the right.
Calm medium density with compact metadata rows, generous document paragraphs, and margins that hold signals without crowding the prose.
Hierarchy comes from type size, line length, rule weight, and whitespace; color is reserved for selected links, focus, and important state evidence.
layout
mobile 375px, tablet 768px, desktop 1200px, wide 1440px
Desktop uses 220px context rail, minmax document column, and 280px margin rail; tablet collapses margin below document; mobile becomes a single reading stack.
Whitespace follows an 8px scale with 32px document gutters and 12px metadata gaps to keep compact information readable.
guidance
- Use sumi text on warm off-white surfaces with indigo reserved for navigation state, links, and focus.
- Keep panels document-like: hairlines, low radius, subtle grain, restrained shadow only for stacking depth.
- Place analytics near the related text as marginal signals, ratios, and evidence strips.
- Use persimmon sparingly for unresolved risk, urgent status, or one attention mark per composition.
- Do not use literal Japanese motifs, brush textures, red sun marks, fans, waves, or ornamental patterns.
- Do not turn the workspace into a colorful KPI dashboard with large charts and saturated cards.
- Do not use pill-heavy generic SaaS navigation or icon grids as the primary structure.
- Do not add decorative gradients, glass panels, or oversized rounded corners that break the document metaphor.

# AYA Washi Context Map ## Philosophy A text-first workspace language for AYA that treats knowledge work as layered paper context: quiet reading surfaces, disciplined marginal signals, and navigation that maps relationships without decorative Japanese cliches. ### Values - Legible context before chrome - Negative space as a working tool rather than emptiness - Layered but low-contrast surfaces that feel calm over long sessions - Status and analytics expressed as marginal evidence, not dashboard spectacle ### Anti-Values - Literal motifs, fan patterns, torii silhouettes, faux calligraphy, or decorative orientalism - High-saturation SaaS dashboards, excessive cards, floating gradients, or generic component inventory scenes - Dense toolbars that compete with document reading ### Visual Character - Two-column CSS grid with a narrow context-map rail using sticky positioning, hairline connectors, and indigo active markers instead of icon-heavy navigation. - Off-white layered surfaces use subtle linear-gradient paper grain, inset border lines, and square-to-small radii so panels read as stacked documents. - Typography pairs a restrained Mincho-style heading face with a geometric Japanese gothic body face, generous line-height, and tight metadata tracking. - Document-adjacent analytics appear as right-margin rules, small tabular numerals, micro bars, and annotation chips rather than large chart widgets. - Interaction states use muted indigo underlines, focus rings offset by two pixels, and rare persimmon status pins for urgent unresolved changes. ## Tokens ### Borders - **Accent Width**: 2px - **Character**: quiet sumi-warm rules, indigo active rule, persimmon only for rare unresolved status marks - **Default Width**: 1px - **Style**: solid hairline with occasional inset double rule ### Colors | Name | Value | |------|-------| | accent | `#D56A2A` | | background | `#F7F2E8` | | border | `#D8CDBA` | | error | `#A74435` | | info | `#426782` | | muted | `#7C7467` | | primary | `#1F3F5B` | | secondary | `#C9BEA7` | | success | `#4F7352` | | surface | `#FFFDF7` | | text | `#25231F` | | warning | `#B9852D` | ### Motion - **Duration**: 160ms - **Easing**: cubic-bezier(0.2, 0.0, 0.2, 1) - **Philosophy**: small opacity, underline, and 1px translation changes that preserve reading position ### Radii - **Full**: 9999px - **Lg**: 10px - **Md**: 6px - **None**: 0 - **Sm**: 3px ### Shadows - **Lg**: 0 22px 60px rgba(52, 43, 30, 0.12) - **Md**: 0 12px 32px rgba(52, 43, 30, 0.08) - **Sm**: 0 1px 0 rgba(37, 35, 31, 0.06) ### Spacing - **Base**: 8px - **Scale**: [4,8,12,16,24,32,48,64] ### Surfaces - **Bg Pattern**: layered linear gradients at 90 and 180 degrees creating a barely visible fiber grid - **Card Style**: flat document leaves, 1px sumi-tinted border, small radius, no glass or colored fills - **Treatment**: warm off-white washi-like panels with extremely low contrast grain and inset hairlines ### Typography - **Base Size**: 16px - **Body Font**: Zen Kaku Gothic New - **Google Fonts Url**: https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=IBM+Plex+Mono:wght@400;500&family=Shippori+Mincho:wght@500;600;700&family=Zen+Kaku+Gothic+New:wght@400;500;700&display=swap - **Heading Font**: Shippori Mincho - **Letter Spacing**: -0.01em - **Line Height**: 1.62 - **Mono Font**: IBM Plex Mono - **Scale Ratio**: 1.2 ## Rules ### Composition Compose screens as a reading desk: context map on the left, primary document flow in the center, and marginal analytics or status evidence on the right. ### Density Calm medium density with compact metadata rows, generous document paragraphs, and margins that hold signals without crowding the prose. ### Hierarchy Hierarchy comes from type size, line length, rule weight, and whitespace; # AYA Washi Context Map
## Overview
A text-first workspace language for AYA that treats knowledge work as layered paper context: quiet reading surfaces, disciplined marginal signals, and navigation that maps relationships without decorative Japanese cliches.
### Values
- Legible context before chrome
- Negative space as a working tool rather than emptiness
- Layered but low-contrast surfaces that feel calm over long sessions
- Status and analytics expressed as marginal evidence, not dashboard spectacle
### Anti-Values
- Literal motifs, fan patterns, torii silhouettes, faux calligraphy, or decorative orientalism
- High-saturation SaaS dashboards, excessive cards, floating gradients, or generic component inventory scenes
- Dense toolbars that compete with document reading
### Visual Character
- Two-column CSS grid with a narrow context-map rail using sticky positioning, hairline connectors, and indigo active markers instead of icon-heavy navigation.
- Off-white layered surfaces use subtle linear-gradient paper grain, inset border lines, and square-to-small radii so panels read as stacked documents.
- Typography pairs a restrained Mincho-style heading face with a geometric Japanese gothic body face, generous line-height, and tight metadata tracking.
- Document-adjacent analytics appear as right-margin rules, small tabular numerals, micro bars, and annotation chips rather than large chart widgets.
- Interaction states use muted indigo underlines, focus rings offset by two pixels, and rare persimmon status pins for urgent unresolved changes.
## Colors

### Composition
Compose screens as a reading desk: context map on the left, primary document flow in the center, and marginal analytics or status evidence on the right.
### Density
Calm medium density with compact metadata rows, generous document paragraphs, and margins that hold signals without crowding the prose.
### Hierarchy

## shadcn/ui Usage
When the target app uses shadcn/ui, copy DESIGN.md with shadcn instead of the plain DESIGN.md. It contains the same Katagami design-language source plus the shadcn/ui primitives, imports, theme variables, component recipes, and preview-shot guidance.
DESIGN.md with shadcn: `/language/en-019ee04d-b74a-7801-88de-b36decd8645d/DESIGN.with-shadcn.md`.
The shadcn page also exposes optional machine-readable files for automation, but the human-facing handoff is DESIGN.md with shadcn.
Install recommended primitives with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.
Use these primitives in shadcn apps:
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Implementation rule for agents: import shadcn primitives from `@/components/ui/*`, apply the generated CSS variables first, then compose the language-specific recipes from the companion MD. Katagami remains the source of truth; shadcn names are the implementation surface.
## Do's and Don'ts
- Do Use sumi text on warm off-white surfaces with indigo reserved for navigation state, links, and focus.
- Do Keep panels document-like: hairlines, low radius, subtle grain, restrained shadow only for stacking depth.
- Do Place analytics near the related text as marginal signals, ratios, and evidence strips.
- Do Use persimmon sparingly for unresolved risk, urgent status, or one attention mark per composition.
- Don't Do not use literal Japanese motifs, brush textures, red sun marks, fans, waves, or ornamental patterns.
- Don't Do not turn the workspace into a colorful KPI dashboard with large charts and saturated cards.
- Don't Do not use pill-heavy generic SaaS navigation or icon grids as the primary structure.
- Don't Do not add decorative gradients, glass panels, or oversized rounded corners that break the document metaphor.

# AYA Washi Context Map shadcn/ui Components
Artifact: `component-recipes-v1`
Author: `katagami-ui-projection`
Language ID: `en-019ee04d-b74a-7801-88de-b36decd8645d`
Slug: `aya-washi-context-map`
## Intent
A text-first workspace language for AYA that treats knowledge work as layered paper context: quiet reading surfaces, disciplined marginal signals, and navigation that maps relationships without decorative Japanese cliches.
## Required primitives
- button
- card
- input
- textarea
- select
- dialog
- sheet
- tabs
- badge
- separator
- checkbox
- switch
- slider
- tooltip
- dropdown-menu
- table
Install with `npx shadcn@latest add button card input textarea select dialog sheet tabs badge separator checkbox switch slider tooltip dropdown-menu table`.

## Visual character to preserve
- Two-column CSS grid with a narrow context-map rail using sticky positioning, hairline connectors, and indigo active markers instead of icon-heavy navigation.
- Off-white layered surfaces use subtle linear-gradient paper grain, inset border lines, and square-to-small radii so panels read as stacked documents.
- Typography pairs a restrained Mincho-style heading face with a geometric Japanese gothic body face, generous line-height, and tight metadata tracking.
- Document-adjacent analytics appear as right-margin rules, small tabular numerals, micro bars, and annotation chips rather than large chart widgets.
- Interaction states use muted indigo underlines, focus rings offset by two pixels, and rare persimmon status pins for urgent unresolved changes.

## Signature component recipes
### Button
Use `Button` for primary, secondary, outline, and ghost actions. Primary actions must expose the language's strongest contrast pair, while secondary and ghost actions should preserve the surface treatment instead of falling back to default neutral SaaS styling.
### Card
Use `Card`, `CardHeader`, `CardContent`, `CardFooter`, and `CardAction` as the main composition frame. Cards should demonstrate the language's surface, border, hierarchy, and density rules rather than appearing as generic rounded rectangles.
### Input and Textarea
Use `Input` and `Textarea` with visible focus rings, field labels, validation states, and the language's rhythm. Forms should show real product content, not placeholder-only controls.
### Select, Tabs, and Table
Use `Select`, `Tabs`, and `Table` to prove navigation, filtering, and dense data states. The table should show row rhythm, separators, hover/focus states, and an empty or status state when the language calls for it.
### Dialog and Sheet
Use `Dialog` for centered decisions and `Sheet` for contextual editing. Both should inherit the language's spacing, border, overlay, and motion rules.
## Preview shots
- `application-shell`: dashboard or workspace shell with navigation, cards, forms, and state badges.
- `detail-editor`: focused editing flow using input, textarea, select, switch/checkbox, dialog or sheet, and action buttons.
- `data-operations`: table-heavy operational view with tabs, dropdown menu affordances, badges, and destructive/empty states.
- Each preview shot must include a renderable `scene` payload with concrete headline, description, actions, and rows/fields/stats for the UI preview.
## Implementation contract
- Start from local `ui/src/components/ui` shadcn-style primitives; do not create a second component system.
- Apply `/katagami/shadcn/aya-washi-context-map/registry-theme.json` variables, then use these recipes for composition and state design.
- Preserve Katagami token names as source metadata; shadcn semantic names are only the export surface.
- Do: Use sumi text on warm off-white surfaces with indigo reserved for navigation state, links, and focus.; Keep panels document-like: hairlines, low radius, subtle grain, restrained shadow only for stacking depth.; Place analytics near the related text as marginal signals, ratios, and evidence strips.; Use persimmon sparingly for unresolved risk, urgent status, or one attention mark per composition.
- Do not: Do not use literal Japanese motifs, brush textures, red sun marks, fans, waves, or ornamental patterns.; Do not turn the workspace into a colorful KPI dashboard with large charts and saturated cards.; Do not use pill-heavy generic SaaS navigation or icon grids as the primary structure.; Do not add decorative gradients, glass panels, or oversized rounded corners that break the document metaphor.
## Copy-paste component example
This generated starter proves the import shape. Production Katagami agents should replace it with a language-specific product composition.
```tsx
